The Sylvania Fire Department provides fire protection, rescue services, hazardous materials handling and first response to medical calls within the city limits. The Fire Department is staffed by seven full-time firefighters supported by 25 volunteers and carries an ISO rating of Class 2.
The mission of the Fire Department is to provide the highest quality fire and rescue services possible to save lives, protect property and control incidents. This goal is accomplished through the teamwork of a well-trained experienced group of firefighters, the use of the latest technology and equipment. and continued education of the community.
It is the ongoing goal of the department to maintain a good rapport with the residents of Sylvania through community services. Through this, Sylvania will be a safer and more secure place to live.
Sylvania firefighters conduct fire safety classes throughout the year. These classes are taught at schools, day care centers, scout meetings, and wherever requested. Our firefighters will be happy to visit your club, organization or community meeting to discuss fire safety.
At your request, fire department personnel will come to your home and conduct a safety inspection. They will offer suggestions to make your home as safe as possible and install free smoke detectors.
The City of Sylvania prohibits outdoor burning without a permit. If you live inside the city limits of Sylvania you will need to come to the Fire Department to obtain a burn permit. Fire Department personnel will issue a permit based on weather conditions for safe outdoor burning.The permit is free of charge.
