In light of the seriousness of the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, The Mayor and City Council have declared a local state of emergency requiring extraordinary and immediate corrective actions for the protection of the health, safety and welfare of all residents of the City of Sylvania.
This order is effective at noon on March 24, 2020, to remain in effect until April 7, 2020, at midnight. This action orders the closing of certain facilities and puts restrictions on gatherings of more than 10 people. The city has issued the following directives as part of this emergency declaration:
Public gatherings bringing together, or likely to bring together, more than 10 people at the same time in a single room or single confined indoor or outdoor space are prohibited. This includes auditoriums, stadiums (indoor or outdoor) tents, outdoor arenas, event centers, music venues, meeting halls, conference rooms, cafeterias, churches, funeral homes or any other confined indoor or outdoor space. This includes birthday parties, family reunions, baby showers and weddings.
Funeral services are limited to outdoors/graveside and attendees should adhere to the CDC distancing recommendations.
The following are exempt from this order: office space, government facilities, public or private schools, child-care facilities, residential buildings and temporary shelters or housing. Also exempt are hospitals, medical facilities, blood collection centers, grocery stores, shopping centers or other retail establishments and manufacturing facilities
Restaurants shall offer only curbside, take-out, delivery and drive-through service options.
Hair salons, barbers, nail salons, spas, tattoo parlors and indoor recreation facilities including gyms, physical fitness centers and dance studies must close for the duration of the order.
Any violation of this order will be a misdemeanor and the police department is authorized and directed to enforce this order.

Utility Disconnections Suspended Until April 3
The City of Sylvania has suspended disconnections of utilities for non-payment of the current bill until April 3, 2020. Late fees for payment after March 15, 2020, will still be charged. No utility bills are being waived.
City Hall Closed Until Further Notice
As our country, state, and community continue to respond at a rapid pace to the information regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19), we are implementing the practice of social distancing, which requires the suspension of in-person gatherings, schools, programming, and events to further prevent the spread of infection. Many of our residents are part of the vulnerable population, and we want to demonstrate our care and concern for them.

The Senior Citizen Center will close effective Tuesday, March 17, 2020, until further notice.
