All ad valorem taxes on property within the corporate limits of the city are due on October 1 of each calendar year and are considered delinquent and in default on December 20 of each calendar year. A 10 percent penalty is imposed on all bills not paid by December 20. Interest at the rate of 1 percent per month begins the day after the due date.
Homeowners may make application for homestead exemption. Homeowners under the age of 65 who occupy the property may qualify for a $10,000 exemption. Homeowners age 65 or above may qualify for 100 percent exemption if they occupy the property. Applications are available at City Hall.
City ad valorem taxes are billed and collected by the Screven County Tax Commissioner.
