The programs and services provided by the City of Sylvania are managed by six city departments: Public Safety, Finance, City Management, Public Works, Nutrition and Utilities.

The Public Safety Department consists of police, fire and emergency management services and is committed to protecting and serving the communuty.
The Finance Department is responsible for the day- to-day business and financial operation of the City.
The City of Sylvania is managed by a professional city manager and a city clerk, both appointed by the mayor and council. The City Management Department staff oversees all aspects of city management.
The Public Works Department is comprised of the Street Division, Sanitation Division and Maintenance Division.
The Nutrition Department operates the Senior Wellness Center and is primarily funded for ages 60 and older.
The Utilities Department provides electricity, gas and water services to residents and business in the City of Sylvania.
