The City of Sylvania Public Works Department is dedicated to ensuring the comfort, safety and well being of all of Sylvania's residents and visitors. The Public Works Department is comprised of the Street Division, Sanitation Division and Maintenance Division.
Public Works responsibilities include sidewalk construction and repair, street repair and resurfacing, right of way maintenance, solid waste disposal, storm water management and parks and cemetery upkeep. Public works employees also maintain the city's vehicles and public facilities.
Street Division
The Street Division is responsible for maintaining all city rights-of-way, storm sewer systems and the upkeep of all city parks and cemeteries. The division removes approximately 1,000 tons of waste and trash annually and is also responsible for mosquito control within the city limits.
Sanitation Division
This division provides service to more than 1,200 residential customers using poly-carts and more than 80 commercial container customers. Approximately 3,500 tons of residential and commercial waste are removed annually.
Maintenance Division
The Maintenance division is responsible for the upkeep and repair of approximately 60 city owned vehicles and 45 pieces of equipment. The division has a fully equipped welding shop and paint room. Surplus vehicles and equipment received from the state and federal governments are also refurbished and maintained.
